So, I made my very first ANGEL FOOD CAKE!
Not a really big deal… but having heard so many horror stories of cake failures, I just wasn’t sure this was going to work out. It was a hot and humid day here which, as I understand, is not an auspicious beginning for such a cake!
This is the book:  Southern Cakes
I had heard of Nancie McDermott for several years as she lives here in Chapel Hill, N.C.
And here is my cake.
It worked beautifully!
I served it at our dinner party for eight, along with the raspberries and then a wonderful
Salted Butter Chocolate Sauce
Was this dessert a hit? Yes, indeed!
Try either of these, or do them both, and I guarantee your dinner will be a success.
We even had some left over so it has now become breakfast, snack, and tea time treat…

  1. Hi Libby,

Angel food cakes are always good anytime. I've never tried to make one that's not from a box. Like you, I didn't know if it would turn out. Yours looks delicious and the chocolate sauce sounds yummy!

  2. This makes me so happy! Beautiful photographs and wonderful words. Honored and delighted to be 'in your kitchen'! You put the 'angel' in this angel food cake.

  3. Nice, looks perfect, Libby! I know I would eat it for breakfast, my favorite time to eat cake as I am usually too full after dinner. Sauce sounds great too, I think that recipe is the Paris blogger? I had the same Couleur Nature water lily tablecloth but gave it to my friend who has a tea business this summer.

  4. It turned out beautifully. I have made some that have and some that haven't and it can be very frustrating because I don't know what I did wrong! The sauce sounds wonderful. What a perfect dessert.

  5. I am going to need to try this angel food cake is a favourite
