FRIDAY FLOWERS

Not much happening in the garden these days!

Oh the heat. Oh the constant watering. Oh the sun.

No, it's been rough on all my poor plants. The last few days have been cooler and even rainy/drizzly but not before I had to pull some of my annuals.

I DO have some Oriental Lillies that are doing quite well! This is the best of them:

And then we come to the hydrangeas...

Blue/Cityline Rio:

Would you believe, that hydrangea above is the very same one I featured in my

and the huge pink one:

had looked like this:

Things do change, don't they?

  1. The heat is a killer - here in the Sacramento Valley we have to plant for those hot dry summers Day Lilies, Crepe Myrtles, some hydrangeas.... Pansies love it as do Petunias.... everything else seems to fry! I've resorted to grasses and evergreens..... ugh

  2. It's always so hot here in Texas that by the end of July and sometimes before then the plants look horrible. Most have to be cut back or pulled up despite the watering. Nothing makes plants grow better than a good drenching from Mother Nature which we haven't had the pleasure for at least 3 weeks or so. Sigh...

I just finished a book called The Language of Flowers and found out what messages you convey when sending specific flowers. Hydrangeas convey dispassion! I couldn't believe it. They are my favorite flower and I used to have them planted in the front of my house! HA
