FABULOUS FINDS: BROWN TRANSFERWARE FROM ERIN

Let me introduce Erin from Carolina Country Living.

How exactly did I meet Erin? hmmm. Well, I was probably looking around (virtually, that is) for people in my new neighborhood down here in North Carolina. I think it was last winter.  I was immediately impressed with her blog: her energy, her writing, her projects, her house and her taste. And, through her, I met Kara at Spruce Antiques in Hillsborough who did my most gorgeous slipcovers for our dining chairs and who will, I am quite sure, be helping me with other projects in the future. 

I bought some things from Erin last summer so had occasion to meet her.

I wrote her asking if she would like to be featured here, on Fabulous Finds, and she said yes!

She knew immediately what she wanted to show us: her collection of Brown Transferware.

"The first picture here is of the "platter that started it all"--Nikko Double Phoenix Brown Windsor.  I found it at a local yard sale two years ago for a mere $2!  I love the floral details of it and the brown and white went well with my log house.  Even though I loved that piece, I didn't start actively collecting brown transferware until last year when I found a pair of the English Mason's Watteau saucers for $.50 apiece at Melville Trading Co. in Mebane.  From then, I was on the hunt for cheap and beautiful brown transferware! "

"A note on the platter: while doing some online research earlier this year, I learned this pattern is hard to come by.  Nikko, a Japanese company, made the Brown Windsor collection mostly with other colors worked into the pattern.  And the colored pieces are generally pretty easyto find on Ebay and in antique shops.  However, I prefer the look of only the brown and white, and despite many online searches, hadn't been able to find any more at a reasonable enough price.  That changed 2 weeks ago when I spotted a set of 6 NDPBW salad/dessert plates and a dinner plate from an ebay seller. 

 I was thrilled to find these!"

Transferware, and brown transferware, can be found in many, many places on the web. I googled it and came up with so many sites that I thought it best not to link here, but let you go and look around.  Erin has done her research and knows just what she likes!
