A little R & R was in order... and what better place to go than the coast?
First stop was Carolina Beach:
Then it was on to Wilmington. You can read all about the city, it's history, and what it offers, here. I had read about this "river" city and its many charms...well...they are all true! The waterfront area is wonderful. It has been revitalized and renewed in a really pedestrian friendly and very tasteful way. The "touristy/schlock" quotient was at a minimum. And, because it was a Saturday morning, we were in luck to find the farmer's market.
Then there is the waterfront:
And finally, there is a very fine restaurant: Le Catalan. Oh heaven! French bistro chairs facing the river and really good, authentic French food (and yes, we actually spoke French to the owner).
We will be going back, in the very near future, so I'll be posting more pictures and news!

Looks like a fabulous holiday Libbie. We all need a little getaway don't we. I have been in that area several times - you're making me a little homesick for the good old USA!

Yum, the French bistro looks great, what a find! Love these photos as well, such great colors on the flowers. Looks like a wonderful getaway - a bit homesick myself, what a nice part of the US!
ReplyDeleteOh Libby, I really enjoyed this post not only for the creme brulee but because I lived in Wilmington and went to UNCW ! It looks like you had a great time.
ReplyDeleteThese pics are so beautiful and fresh I love them. My husband proposed to me at wrightsville beach almost 10 yrs ago. This place holds a special place in my heart.
ReplyDeleteLooks like someone I know is enjoying her new life...although i could do without those tornado warnings. My first too, jeepers, I will take hurricaines any day. At least you know where and when they are hitting! I spent til 2 am watching tv and ready to go down to the basement. not fun.
ReplyDeleteI'm so jealous. What great photos and the food looks fabulous. I live in Alberta Canada, there are no beaches here like the one in the photo. Nice!
